Mesothelioma / Being A Caregiver

Providing Support

Supporting your loved one

It is often said that the hardest job is being in the supporting role. In truth it’s difficult for everyone. Every person has their challenges and concerns that partners, children and friends may be unable to fully comprehend.

Caring for someone you love as they navigate a life limiting illness presents a unique set of challenges. The carer is living with the grief associated with the loss of a shared future, whilst still trying to provide support.

New relationship roles

New roles and routines undoubtedly disrupt life, and both the patient and carer experience physical and emotional changes. It is never easy. It usually inspires some degree of conflict, resentment and guilt that can be difficult to admit and talk about. Feelings, however inconvenient, are valid and don't just go away. Being as honest as possible with each other and working through the issues together compassionately can help both feel safe to have difficult conversations.

Where to find help

Navigating the healthcare system after a diagnosis of mesothelioma or another dust disease can be challenging. At MADDA, we are here to make that process easier to cope with for people with mesothelioma and their caregivers.

We provide care navigation as well as personalised support along the journey from diagnosis to bereavement care.
