Plumbers are among the trades most at risk of developing the terminal cancer, mesothelioma.
Decades of working with materials that once commonly contained asbestos, including pipe insulation, cement pipes, gaskets and sealing compounds, have left many exposed, often without knowing it at the time. For some, the impact only becomes clear many years later.
That’s why industry leadership matters.
For more than a year, the Master Plumbers and Gasfitters Association of Western Australia has proudly stood alongside MADDA as a valued Industry Partner, helping raise awareness of asbestos risks and supporting efforts to protect people working across the plumbing and gasfitting trades.
As the only industry association in WA dedicated to representing licensed plumbing and gasfitting contractors, Master Plumbers plays a critical role in supporting the sector. Their members include many small business owners who are not only running companies but also training apprentices and shaping the next generation of tradespeople. That influence makes safety education and asbestos awareness even more important.
Through their partnership with MADDA, Master Plumbers is helping amplify an important message across the industry: that awareness, education and proper asbestos management can save lives.
The organisation’s commitment to supporting the profession is reflected in the leadership of CEO Murray Thomas, who has dedicated decades to strengthening the industry. In recognition of his contribution, Murray was inducted into the Master Plumbers and Gasfitters Association WA Hall of Fame in 2025 which speaks to his impact on the sector.

Industry partnerships like this are vital to MADDA’s work. By working directly with WA;s building and construction businesses, we can reach the people most at risk, share critical information about asbestos and hazardous dust, and help create safer workplaces across our state.
We are proud to work alongside Murray and the Master Plumbers team to continue shining a light on asbestos risks in the plumbing industry and to ensure future generations of WA plumbers and gasfitters have the knowledge they need to stay safe.
