Professor Fraser Brims is a Consultant Respiratory Physician at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and Director of Research at Curtin Medical School. He is also Deputy Director of the Institute for Respiratory Health and Chair of the Western Australian Mesothelioma Registry
A Fellow of both the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Royal College of Physicians of London, Fraser’s research focuses on occupational lung disease, mesothelioma, and the early detection of lung cancer using low-dose CT scanning. His work spans both clinical practice and epidemiology, with a strong emphasis on translating research into real-world impact.
Fraser was invited to serve as an expert on the National Dust Disease Taskforce, where he provided advice to the Federal Government on the prevention and management of silicosis through the national action plan.
As Clinical Lead of the Occupational Lung Disease Clinic at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Fraser sees first-hand the human cost of workplace dust exposure, not only for patients, but for their families. This perspective underpins his commitment to prevention, evidence-based policy and improved outcomes.
He brings to the boardroom a rare combination of clinical expertise, research leadership and governance experience, and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
