Mesothelioma and Dust Diseases Australia (MADDA) has welcomed the Master Builders Association of Western Australia (MBAWA) as our newest Industry Partner.
Established in 1898, Master Builders WA is the peak body for Western Australia’s building and construction industry, supporting thousands of residential, commercial and civil construction businesses across the state.
From large building companies to sole traders, their membership spans the full breadth of the sector, giving them significant reach and impact across the industry.

Protecting workers on WA construction sites
Construction remains one of WA’s largest industries, and the people working in it continue to face real risks on-site every day.
Asbestos is still present in hundreds of thousands of WA buildings, and silica dust exposure from stone, concrete and masonry work is an ongoing and growing concern across the industry.
Given that WA construction workers are the most at-risk cohort in Australia for asbestos and hazardous dust exposure, raising awareness is critical to protecting current and future generations. This is why our Industry Partnerships are so important, to help us minimise the risks of permanent harm.
Asbestos and hazardous dust awareness in construction
MBAWA’s long-standing commitment to education, professional standards and workforce development makes them a natural partner for MADDA.
Their focus on creating a safer, stronger and more sustainable construction sector aligns with our mission to raise awareness of asbestos and hazardous dust risks on WA worksites .
Together, we want to promote a safety culture that goes beyond compliance, keeping prevention and protection front of mind for both construction employers and employees.
MADDA’s Managing Director, Cate Harman, emphasises the importance of industry collaboration in protecting current and future generations of workers.
“Creating safer workplaces in WA construction requires everyone – industry, employers, employees, government – working together. But the prevalence of dust diseases, including the terminal cancer mesothelioma, remind us there’s still a lot of work to do. As a leader in the industry, Master Builders WA has the reach and credibility to help us spread that message further, and we’re glad to have them stand with us as an Industry Partner.”
Specialist support for mesothelioma
MADDA provides specialist nursing support for people diagnosed with mesothelioma, the terminal cancer caused by asbestos exposure with an average prognosis of 12-21 months.
WA has some of the highest incidences of mesothelioma in the world, which reinforces the importance of raising awareness among WA construction workers.
This partnership strengthens our ability to reach people who need our specialist services, to ensure that they don’t have to navigate their journey alone.
MADDA is pleased to welcome Master Builders WA to our growing network of Industry Partners as we work together to create safer worksites for our WA construction workers.
