Safety by choice: Perkins Builders joins MADDA as an Industry Partner

Perkins Builders has joined MADDA as an Industry Partner, continuing its support for our work to raise awareness of asbestos and advocate for safer workplaces across Western Australia.

Perkins was the largest donor to MADDA’s EOFY campaign in June 2026 and joined our Industry Partner network following our inaugural Industry Partner Sundowner in August.

For a business that has made safety a core part of how it operates, supporting MADDA is a natural extension of that commitment..

Construction Safety by Choice, Not by Chance

Perkins Builders has been part of the Western Australian construction industry since 1965, and today the family-owned business is one of the State’s largest regionally based construction companies, delivering commercial, industrial, education, health and civil projects across the state.

Under the leadership of Managing Director Dan Perkins, Perkins has proudly remained true to the principles it was founded on; providing outstanding service, a strong commitment to safety, creating opportunities for its people and delivering an exceptional quality of work.

Safety is a key part of how Perkins operates, with its “Safety by Choice, not by Chance” approach focused on identifying and managing risks before they cause harm.

That focus aligns closely with MADDA’s work to ensure building and construction workers understand the risks of asbestos exposure and how they can protect themselves on the job.

Shared values and a shared responsibility for safety

Perkins’ values shape how it works with its people, projects and clients, and they sit comfortably alongside MADDA’s focus on protecting workers and supporting those affected by asbestos disease.

Asbestos was banned in Australia in 2003, but it is still present in buildings across WA, and tradies can come across it during routine renovation, maintenance and demolition work.

The risk can be easy to underestimate. WA has more in-situ asbestos than any other state, making the risk of exposure very real. Tradespeople may come across asbestos during work that appears routine, and disturbing asbestos-containing materials can release fibres that may cause serious diseases including mesothelioma, asbestosis and lung cancer.

But asbestos is not the only harmful dust that causes concern on site. More than 500,000 Australian workers are exposed to respirable crystalline silica (RCS) at work each year.

For construction workers, exposure to asbestos, RCS and other harmful dusts can occur years before the consequences become apparent. That is why the safety culture on site today remains so important – it influences what can happen in years to come.

Perkins Builders joins a growing network of MADDA Industry Partners

Perkins Builders join a growing network of Industry Partners that includes the Electrical Contractors Association of WA (ECA WA), ReddiFund, ABN Group, and the Master Plumbers and Gasfitter Association of WA, and Master Builders Western Australia each bringing a different part of the industry into the conversation about safer workplaces in WA.

Perkins’ ongoing support will help us keep raising awareness of asbestos risks across the construction and building industries and advocate for compliance with safer practices to help keep our WA tradespeople safe on site.

We welcome Perkins Builders to the MADDA Industry Partner network and thank Dan and the Perkins team for their support of our work.
